Cruise ships in Progreso: October arrival days

October brings 10 cruise calls to the port of Progreso, and every one falls on a Tuesday or a Thursday. The ships dock around 8 or 9 in the morning and sail between 4 and 5 in the afternoon, so those days feel different in the port.

What is happening

The October calendar brings 10 cruise calls to the port of Progreso. Two public calendars, CruiseTimetables and CruiseMapper, agree on the dates and the ships. The month began on Thursday 1 October with the arrival of the Carnival Valor.

For comparison, April 2026 received 14 ships, against 8 in April 2025, according to Por Esto. And between January and April this year, 74 arrived in total. October is quieter than April, but it makes clear that the port is getting busy again.

An honest note: those calendars come from third parties, not from the port authority's official calendar. Cruise lines can change or cancel a stop. If you are planning something important around a ship, confirm the date with the port first.

The October dates

These are the scheduled calls: Thursday 1, Tuesday 6, Thursday 8, Tuesday 13, Thursday 15, Tuesday 20, Thursday 22, Tuesday 27 and Thursday 29. The ships are the Carnival Valor and the Carnival Breeze, both from Carnival Cruise Line, and the Margaritaville at Sea Islander.

Six of the ten calls are on Thursdays and four on Tuesdays. The Carnival Valor appears five times in the month (on the 1st, 6th, 15th, 20th and 29th), the Carnival Breeze four times (8th, 13th, 22nd and 27th) and the Islander once, on the 15th. If you live near the town centre or the malecón, it is worth marking those dates on your calendar.

Thursday 15 is the busiest day of the month: two ships come in together, the Carnival Valor and the Islander.

According to CruiseMapper, the Carnival Valor and the Islander dock at 8 in the morning and sail at 4 in the afternoon. The Carnival Breeze arrives at 9 and leaves at 5.

What it means if you live here

A cruise day is noticeable. With ships docking at 8 or 9 in the morning and leaving at 4 or 5 in the afternoon, you can expect more people in the town centre and on the malecón from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. That is an inference from the schedules, not a measurement.

Passengers step off at the terminal, which sits at the end of the pier, and reach the shore by shuttle bus or taxi. The pier is very long, about 6.5 kilometres, because the water close to the coast is shallow and big ships have to dock far out.

The other side matters too. In October there are no calls scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays. If you want the malecón at a calm pace, those are your days.

The season in numbers

In 2025 the port received 153 ships and more than 470,000 passengers, according to Posta. Between January and March 2026, 60 ships arrived with 170,990 passengers. For all of 2026, the state projects more than 170 calls and more than 496,000 passengers, according to Riviera Maya News.

Progreso is less than an hour from Mérida, and that closeness is part of the appeal: Posta notes that it lets visitors combine culture, food and nature in a single visit. It is part of what the state offers the cruise lines when it promotes the port.

There is also construction. The expansion of the deep-water port aims to let bigger ships dock, something the cruise lines are asking for because they are building larger vessels, as Por Esto reported in October 2025. It is work measured in years, and for now it changes nothing about any Tuesday or Thursday this month.

How to plan your day

If you prefer the malecón without a crowd, pick a Monday, a Wednesday, a Friday or the weekend. If you like the buzz of a ship day, pick a Tuesday or a Thursday and arrive early, before the passengers come ashore.

To confirm a date, check the port's calendar or ask at the municipal tourism office. Calendars change, and a two-minute call saves a wasted trip.
